About Radiodays Europe

"A Sound Future"

The meeting point for the world of radio

Radiodays Europe was born in 2010 as a response to the needs of the European industry, public and private, to come together to discuss the new media challenges, across borders.

It has since grown to become the most important annual conference for radio professionals with 1500 participants from 62 countries. It is the meeting point for the European radio industry, both private and public, and a destination for radio people from around the world.

It will next take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands 19-21 March 2017 at Rai Convention Centre.

Radiodays Europe (RDE) is about radio´s future, but also about sharing experiences from the best of radio today. Success stories, digital advances, journalism, new research and business models, from across the globe. The mission is to spread good ideas and to make better radio for our listeners.

This year RDE is about a Sound Future – both for radio and the growing audio market, with new players entering the audio business. And the digital challenges that rapidly are changing the way people consume information and entertainment and the disruption of present business models.

At RDE you will find inspiration from some of the greatest award winning radio producers and the visions of radio broadcasters leaders and players from outside radio that will influence our future.

Radiodays Europe is not only the largest international radio conference in the world. It is also leading the way by being the forward looking, with high quality content, great speakers and a huge programme with over 120 speakers in 55 sessions over 2,5 days. In addition an exhibition with 60+ exhibitors showcasing services for broadcasters.

The programme is created with the involvement of the partner organisations of Radiodays Europe, who kicked off the programing process with a brainstorming meeting – the Conference Assembly – in Amsterdam in September. An international Programme Committee of ten has since then been working on the programme and finding speakers.

Started in Scandinavia

The first Radiodays Europe was held 2010 in Copenhagen. It grew out of the existing collaboration between the different Radiodays in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, where the model with joint private and public radio conference already was in place. In 2012 Radiodays Europe moved to Barcelona and in 2013 to Berlin. In Dublin 2014 and Milan 2015 RDE had over 1300 delegates from 60 countries. In Paris 2016 there were 1500 delegates from 62 countries – a new record.

Who are the delegates?

Most attendees come from Europe – almost all countries in Europe are there. But attendees come from around the world too – Asia, Africa, Australia, North America and South America. The countries with the biggest participation are Germany, France, the Scandinavian countries, UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Switzerland, Poland, Italy and Russia.

Delegates come from commercial radio and public service in almost equal numbers. 38 % came from public radio and 37% from commercial radio. 9% work in consultancy, 5% came from organisations and 11% “other”.

29% define themselves as top-level management, 28% are Programme Directors/Music Directors/Channel Managers, 10% are Heads of news or journalists, 9% are producers/programme hosts, 4% work in online or technical development, 5% in sales and 15% other.

One key to success for Radiodays Europe is the dialogue with broadcasters and partners across Europe about the development of the conference. Radiodays Europe is supported by a wide range of organisations such as the EBU (public broadcasters), AER (private radios), egta (European saleshouses) and other radio organisations in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Poland, Russia and Slovenia. Other partners have members outside Europe, such as PMA (Public Media Alliance), AIBD (Asia-Pacific), WorldDAB and Radiodays Africa, ZA.

Not for profit

“The Association Radiodays Europe” is a not for profit organisation with the sole purpose of organising the annual radio conference. The association was founded by the public broadcasters SR, DR, NRK and YLE and these organisations make up the board of the association. Chairman of the Board is Jan Petersson, Swedish Radio.

Radiodays is supervised by the Manager and Co-founder Anders Held, Sweden.
